Despite advances in naval technology, sea mines continue to pose a significant threat to naval operations, commercial shipping, offshore energy infrastructure, and global supply chains. Modern mine warfare has evolved beyond conventional moored and bottom mines to include sophisticated influence mines, remotely activated systems, and intelligent underwater threats capable of disrupting strategic waterways and denying access to critical maritime areas.
This course provides military, naval, and maritime security professionals with a comprehensive understanding of modern Mine Counter Measures (MCM), integrating advanced detection technologies, autonomous systems, underwater surveillance, operational planning, and international best practices to ensure safe navigation and maritime freedom.
Participants will explore the complete mine countermeasure lifecycle, including threat assessment, mine hunting, mine sweeping, identification, neutralization, route clearance, and post-operation verification. Emphasis is placed on the integration of manned and unmanned capabilities, enabling participants to understand how modern naval forces employ Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs), sonar systems, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and command-and-control systems to counter underwater explosive threats effectively.
More than 90 percent of global trade is transported by sea, making secure maritime routes essential to international commerce, energy security, and military operations. Even a limited number of naval mines can close major ports, delay humanitarian assistance, disrupt naval deployments, and significantly impact regional economies.
Recent conflicts have demonstrated that mine warfare remains a highly effective asymmetric capability. Strategic waterways, commercial ports, offshore energy infrastructure, and naval bases have become increasingly vulnerable to conventional mines, improvised underwater explosive devices, and hybrid maritime threats.
Modern Mine Counter Measures are therefore no longer limited to post-conflict clearance operations. Today’s naval forces require continuous preparedness, persistent maritime surveillance, rapid response capabilities, and close coordination between military, commercial, and government stakeholders to maintain freedom of navigation and protect critical maritime infrastructure.
This course enables participants to understand modern mine warfare, evaluate operational risks, and implement effective countermeasure strategies that enhance maritime resilience and operational superiority.
